The People of Iran Are Fighting Back
Sunday, June 21, 2009 at 10:57AM It appears demonstrators in teheran are actively taking on representatives of the regime.
I've discovered two Youtube videos purporting to show the crowds attacking the Baseej or Nirouye Moqavemate Basij ("Mobilisation Resistance Force"). The basij is a volunteer-based Iranian paramilitary force founded by the order of the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini on November 1979. The Basij are subordinate to, and receive their orders from, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
This means that the crowds are defending themselves against the thugs sent by the government to attack them. The Basij do not appear to be willing to fight back against the attacking demonstrators.
The first video purports to show the Basij headquarters being blown up when the natural gas lines to the building are ignited. "Natural gas lines of Basij Head quarter was set on fire after Basijie's locked themselves inside . at 0:05 you can see the whole building exploded at least 5 from Basijies were killed."
The second shows a crowd of demonstrators chasing a retreating group of uniformed Basij.
If there are cases where security forces are laying down their arms or refusing to attack the crowds, that would be significant.
